Video analytics specialist, VCA Technology, uploads more than three thousand IP licenses into network cameras
Mirasys has deployed the VCAsys technology in its NVR Pro and NVR Enterprise range

VCA Technology, the leading UK-based video analytics specialist, announced that it has secured 34,803 personal computer (PC)-based licenses of its video content analytics suite -VCAsys - supporting more than 200,000 video channels in its first year of trading.  A further 3,259 VCAsys IP licenses were sold for uploading into network cameras. One such order was a 1500 channel contract to support central traffic monitoring in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

VCAsys software can be embedded into edge devices such as network cameras, uploaded into video management and recording systems or controlled direct from a PC. VCA has been actively engaged throughout 2009 with both video management system and network camera vendors in order to integrate with their systems.

Success has been swift for the product having embedded its software into Texas Instruments (TI) DaVinci DSP semiconductors which are widely used by camera manufacturers to process video images. Leading camera and encoder manufacturer UDP was the first to deploy VCApresence in its IPE range of network cameras and NVC range of video encoders.

More recently CBC (Europe) announced a commitment to upload VCAsys into Ganz IP cameras and Network Video Recorders (NVR). Video management system vendor, Mirasys, has also deployed the technology in its NVR Pro and NVR Enterprise range.

Such was its success that VCA Technology in 2009 was able to hire its first sales & marketing director, Kevin Waterhouse, and additional senior software engineers to accelerate its product development roadmap.

Video analytics software is being deployed for applications outside pure surveillance today. Applications include queue management and customer behaviour analysis in retail, for example. Applications such as left objects, zoning and exception reporting are driving adoption in the core professional security market.

VCAsys also achieved i-LIDS® approval in 2009 as a secondary detection system for operational alert use in sterile zone monitoring applications. i-LIDS (Image Library for Intelligent Detection Systems) is the UK Government's Home Office Scientific Development Branch's (HOSDB) benchmark to stimulate development and use of video analytics systems which meet government standards. VCAsys has now listed in a catalogue of approved security equipment used by Departmental Security Officers for Government procurement.

Geoff Thiel, the founder and chief executive of VCA Technology, commented: "The fact that VCAsys is designed to be used in both the edge, in cameras, and in the centre, in video management and recording systems, and that we have been able to offer a highly reliable product at a very reasonable price; all at a time when the market has been looking to add value to both existing and new security systems, has supported our growth last year."
