It’s a common misconception that the better the quality of an image, the higher the bitrate will be. However, this is not always the case. In fact, sometimes technology developed to improve the usability of a video has the positive side-effect of reducing bitrate since it removes image noise or unwanted movements in the video.

Bitrate in video surveillance is important as it affects the bandwidth capacity and storage of the video. In simple terms, an increase in bitrate increases the bandwidth and storage required.
