Zerodegrees, the expanding microbrewery and restaurant chain, has installed a new IP-Surveillance system at its Bristol-based restaurant in response to local authority licensing requirements for 30-days of high quality recording in public entertainment facilities. A total of 16 Axis Communications network cameras, two Axis video servers and Milestone XProtect software has been deployed at the restaurant.
Following completion of the trial this summer, Zerodegrees is planning to replicate the system in each of its six other sites located in Greater London’s Blackheath and Beckenham, as well as in a restaurant in Reading and three sites in Bexleyheath, Kent.
For the Bristol-based restaurant Zerodegrees has selected four AXIS 211 Power over Ethernet Network Cameras, three AXIS 205 Network Cameras, nine AXIS 2110 Network Cameras and deployed two AXIS 241Q video servers to digitise output from eight existing analogue CCTV cameras. The company deployed Milestone XProtect to manage and store the video output from a total of 24 cameras for a 30-day period.
Nick Desai, co-owner and director of Zerodegrees explained that they set the system up to deliver high quality pictures:
“We needed high quality video across most of the site - particularly in doorways, the stock room, as and covering the safes, bars and waitress stations.
In addition to meeting local authority licensing requirements the system also helps head office staff to view the Bristol restaurant remotely. Nick Desai explains:
“We are also using the link for ongoing people counting as well as analysis of ways of improving quality of service and the look and feel of the venue.”
The restaurant employs 45 people and the 24 cameras cover most of the 12,500 square foot site. There are also plans to integrate the Axis network cameras with Milestone XProtect Transact software to provide automated monitoring of cash handling at all tills, allowing managers to assess whether any discrepancies between takings and cash register receipts are due to genuine wrong-doing or simply mistakes in the delivery of change and collection of tips.
Nick Desai summed up:
“We are impressed with the quality of the Axis cameras and the use of Power over Ethernet cameras made these easier to install. The quality of images that they produce is high enough for Bristol Police to commend our surveillance system as ‘one of the best in town’.”
