Mission
The local police of the Fossanese Municipalities realised the need to implement a video surveillance system to combat petty crime and maintain control over areas that are difficult to monitor with police presence.
Solution
System Service implemented an IP-Surveillance system based on Axis network cameras. The system consists of thirty-seven AXIS 221 Network Cameras deployed in various critical areas, and seven AXIS 233D Network Cameras. All the network cameras were installed in external environments and were equipped with infrared illuminators to permit night-time recording. The images are viewed in real time from the local police station of the Fossanese Municipalities and recorded on servers positioned in a secured room accessible exclusively to authorized personnel.
Result
The selected solution and the long testing period allowed the customer's requirements to be fully met. Thanks to the scalability offered by the system, new network cameras are easily being added by technicians to further extend the areas under video surveillance.
"With Axis network cameras, we'll surely succeed in ensuring the adequate surveillance of areas and places which are particularly important, very busy and subject to damage in our towns." Franco Bruno, responsible for Security Policies for the Fossanese Municipalities
Goal
By using network cameras, the local police of the Fossanese Municipalities are able to monitor what happens at all strategic points in the territory. They now have the means for preventing and combating petty crime and maintaining control over remote areas. The territory of the Fossanese Municipalities consists of Fossano and some neighboring towns, including Cervere, S. Albano Stura, Trinità, Genola and other small hamlets. The total area extends to some 290 square kilometres and a catchment area of around 40,000 residents.
Installation
System Service Srl carried out the work through its subsidiary Granda Wireless System, a public/private mixed capital company 60% controlled by the Special Multiservices Company of the Municipality of Fossano and 40% controlled by System Service of Fossano. To respond to police needs, an IP-Surveillance system based on Axis network video solutions was implemented. Thirty-seven AXIS 221 and seven AXIS 233D Network Cameras were deployed in various key areas so as to film squares, main roads, avenues, forecourts opposite
railway stations, car parks, and other public spaces. All of the network cameras were installed in external environments and were equipped with infrared illuminators to permit night-time recording. AXIS 221 Network Cameras were integrated in the appropriate outdoor protective VT Verso Housing HPV42K1A000 casings in order to operate in different weather conditions. The AXIS 233D Network Cameras offer exceptional functions such as progressive scan technology, 35x optical zoom, rapid and precise pan and tilt movements and a wide dynamic range, which together guarantee ultra high performance and high-quality images.

between them, has been equipped with a zoom which aims as far as possible towards wide angles rather than close-ups. Although detail was also important, priority was placed on achieving an overview. All network cameras can communicate with the system via a radio-relay wireless technology which, by positioning an antenna close to each camera, enables the setup of a "control zone" at any point in the territory covered by the service.
Benefits
By adopting all the security, password and data encryption systems, the images are viewed in real time from the local police station of the Fossanese Municipalities, by means of dedicated workstations. Using AXIS Camera Station video management software, video feeds are recorded on servers located in a secured room exclusively accessible to authorised personnel.
The solution offered by Axis Communications to the video surveillance needs of the Fossanese Municipalities and the long testing period resulted in successfully meeting the customer's requirements. New network cameras are constantly being installed by technicians to further extend the area under surveillance. This is possible thanks to the extreme scalability of the system implemented by Axis.
