Network cameras and video management software from Axis Communications, the global leader in network video have been installed in popular Borough Market restaurant Roast. The IP-Surveillance deployment followed production of a feasibility study by security integrator and Axis partner, AMW Security Technologies Limited. AMW advocated upgrading to a highly comprehensive IP-Surveillance system in order to get much better coverage in the back and front of house areas of Roast than the original system offered.
Roast, which was founded by well known restaurateur Iqbal Wahhab, was opened in October 2005. Wahhab and his team previously established the very popular Cinnamon Club and are in the process of building two more London eateries.
AMW has installed a total of nine Axis network cameras covering the inside and entrance areas of this beautifully-designed restaurant, built on two levels of the market's old floral halls, with capacity to seat up to 120 people. Three AXIS 212 PTZ Network Cameras, one AXIS 207 MW (megapixel wireless) Network Camera, four AXIS 207 Network Cameras and one AXIS 216 FD (fixed dome) Network Camera can be viewed on a total of five clients (PCs) using AXIS Camera Station video management software.
A total of 31 days of stored images are collected by Roast's management team via a high specification 250 Gigabyte (GB) workstation onsite. Most cameras run on motion detection only, 24-hours a day and collect images at four frames per second. Additional plans for the surveillance system include deployment of the Milestone Enterprise Edition video management solution which will open up the potential for easy integration with Roast's existing Paxton access control provision of a two TeraByte (TB) LaCie Ethernet Disk shared hard drive solution for archive recording.
Wahhab and his senior management team are already finding the new system very helpful in keeping an eye on the trading at Roast. Wahhab explains:
"My senior management and I can view how the restaurant is going when we are out on the road via a company laptop or in our headquarters via our own desktops. I have found access to these images invaluable for checking whether procedures are being followed and making sure our team are able to cope in very busy periods. It helps ensure Roast is properly resourced as it grows in popularity."
Mark McLeod, managing director of the integrator AMW Security Technologies Limited, commented:
"Our contact with Roast's management team through installation of Roast's access control and intruder alarm before its opening led us to become a trusted IT and security partner for the company. We could see the problems they were having with the CCTV system they had and our proposal to put in higher quality, more reliable IP cameras from Axis proved a good move. We look forward to working closely with Mr Wahhab's team as he expands his restaurant group over the next few years."
Steve Gorski, managing director for Axis Communications (UK) commented:
"Roast has clearly benefited from use of a good range of our newer network cameras and software. I want to thank AMW for helping them realise the potential of IP-Surveillance to provide both comprehensive security and remote management."
