Network cameras protect businesses at prestigious Dublin enterprise park
Mission
Park West Enterprise Centre Management Company (PWEC) manages the Park West Enterprise Centre in West Dublin, Ireland, which is home to more than 80 companies and is set within the Park West Business Park, itself home to more than 240 companies and employing more than 8,000 employees. PWEC called on Encom, one of Ireland's leading IP-Surveillance solutions providers, to develop a solution to provide greater security for its members and reduce vandalism.
Solution
Encom's solution included AXIS 214 PTZ Network Cameras, offering automatic day and night vision, motion detection and requiring minimal initial adjustment. A number of AXIS 221 Network Cameras were also specified for use in specific trouble spots because of their active tampering alarm capability which offers the option of automatically alerting central control if any of these cameras have been moved or obstructed. A very important aspect of Encom's solution is that all network cameras are connected via a wireless network using Senao Wireless Access Points. Images are then managed and recorded by AXIS Camera Station which offers automatic camera discovery and uses an event configuration wizard enabling remote configuration of all cameras. All images are recorded at 640x480 (VGA) resolution on motion detection only and are stored for 20 days. The whole solution, including installation of all wireless communications, has already shown an impressive return on investment.
Result
With a clear reduction in vandalism and other minor crimes at the Park West Enterprise Centre, IP-Surveillance has made for a safer and more pleasant environment for both business owners and their staff. Using wireless cameras has allowed the centre to cover a large area quickly and cost effectively, with additional system expansion planned for the near future.
Park West - home to international business Park West is Ireland's largest business park, encompassing 230 acres (93 hectares) of land to the east of Dublin city centre. It offers 2 million square feet of office space and an additional 2 million square feet of industrial space. It also has extensive leisure facilities and residential properties set in one business campus. The park was created by leading Irish property company, Harcourt Developments and is now the home to 240 companies including many leading international names. Within the park, a separate area called the Park West Enterprise Centre (PWEC) is home to 80 companies.
Tackling vandalism 
Encom proposed a system based around a wireless network, with all of the Axis network cameras utilizing this wireless system
Encom, one of Ireland's leading IP-Surveillance solution providers, were engaged to assess the general security requirements on the site and to provide a solution which would deal with the issues raised. Concerns about vandalism and in particular damage to premises and parked cars needed to be addressed.
PWEC wanted to ensure that the installation would cause minimal disruption to its day to day business and was keen to avoid having to dig and bury cabling for the new system. Encom proposed a system based around a wireless network, with all of the Axis network cameras utilizing this wireless system. All the network cameras used are of a high specification, including features such as motion detection which can trigger video recording and an active tampering alarm capability which alerts users if a camera is moved or obstructed.
The high quality images delivered by the Axis cameras ensure that if an incident occurs in the car parks the recorded images are of high enough quality to submit as evidence for a possible court trial. Using AXIS Camera Station to view and record all of the incoming images from the cameras ensures that images relating to any incident can be easily located and either burnt on to a disc or forwarded by email as an image file. Recording is only triggered when motion was detected, which makes it easier to examine any incidents that take place.
Since the IP-Surveillance system has been installed, business owners at the centre have reported a drop in vandalism and other minor crimes at the PWEC and owners have remarked on how the centre is a safer and more pleasant environment.
